For my final project I finished it up today, and it definitely took a lot of work.
My final project was a photo transfer of images taken from the line and put onto leaves gathered from the ten different sections. My first intent and try at the project was to take the images and put them on the leaves, with hopes that the paper would then come right off. Well that did not go as plan and I had to do some improvising.
With a mod podge transfer it requires a few set of steps. A piece of paper is covered with a thin layer of elmers glue and what ever the object is, in my case dry leaves, a thin layer of mod podge is put on them. The images get printed onto the glue side of the paper and then cut and placed onto the objects. My first go at the piece, the paper easily came off and left the images behind. In the case of me working on my final project, the paper would not come off as easily and instead I had to think of something else to do. With a previous trial I noticed that the leaf part could come off and the glue left behind was in the shape of the leaf. I got the idea to then peal away parts of the leaf so the image could then be viewable.
My final project focused on the word Tiny and a relationship with the line that we have been working on. I decided to print the panoramic photos on the leaves to show the relationship between the tiny objects and the huge line since the tiny objects make the line what it is. I used string to connect all of the leaves to show that together they work as one, are all connected, and make up the line.
Throughout my research I will be focusing on my final project and figuring out exactly what I will be making for it.
While working on my research and figuring out exactly what I will be doing I definitely have to remember that I have to make it engaging and something that would be considered interesting. Personally I have always found photos to be quite interesting, and depending on the size, one can lead the viewer in quite close to the actual image. Throughout my research I think I’m going to focus on the transfers and figure out exactly what I will be transferring the image on to.
Doing some internet exploring I did find a few examples of what I have been thinking of.
Consider how your informative structure depicts your research without you there to explain it. What bits of information are most essential to understand, is there something for the audience to question and explore?
The materials I will be using (I plan on using) are glue and leaves that I will be gathering from the line. Instead of using just regular pictures and posting them on the studio wall, I’m deciding to use actual leaves since they are the connection to the line. I also was to display the relationship of the whole line along with what makes up the line.
For my final project on The Line, we had to come up with a proposal of three ideas that could possibly be used.
After doing some research and getting a better understanding of what my word meant, I came up with three ideas that included aesthetics that I am passionate about and that would, hopefully, demonstrate an understanding and connection of the word Tiny to the Line.
My first idea that I thought of was doing an image transfer onto small objects that I would find on the line. The objects could include leaves and rocks, but of course they had to be tiny and or small. I would be taking a panoramic photo of each section of the line that would then correspond with a leaf or rock found from that area. The reasoning behind this idea was the having the image on the object its self would be a representation of the line and what it is really made of. There are many unseen, small things on the line and if they were to all be taken away then what would be left. Although the leaves and rocks may be tiny, together they are all connected and make what the line is.
My second idea that I came up with for the final project was to recreate each section of the line but in a small, little bottle. In the book of explorations, this was mimicking the tiny ecosystem and I would use even smaller bottles then a standard sized mason jar. I wanted to show how a big area, like each individual section of the line, could be contained and shrunk down into something much smaller. I would use ten small bottles and line them up to symbolize the actual line.
My last idea that I had for the final project was to recreate a tree, representing each part of the line. Trees are extremely important and are literally on every section of the line. Choosing to recreate the trees, I would of gathered small items that would be used and create a smaller scaled tree. I wanted to show how something so big and magnificent could still be considered beautiful on such a smaller scale. The trees would then stand, similar to my second proposed idea, in a line to symbolize the actual line.
After having my meeting with Katie we discussed exactly which idea I should pursue to have as my final project for the line. The tree one, which I had thought would of been interesting, seemed too common for someone always had something to do with recreating a tree. The miniature ecosystem had the same reactions as making trees.
We decided I should create the transfer images for they had a stronger representation of my idea and incorporated something that was more individualized.
For my final project on the line I will be making image transfers.
Throughout my experience on the line I have been very interested in both photography and what I have found my word to mean. Since I have the word Tiny, I’ve had to think of exactly how I will be able to make a final project.
Image Transfer: Mod Podge Photo Transfer
For my specific photo transfer I found the mod podge type to be the easiest. Over the past few weeks I have been gathering leaves from the different sections of the line. What I will be doing is transferring a panoramic photo onto the actual leaves that I am collecting. I specifically decided to focus on how I could make the whole line relate to being something “tiny.” I realized throughout my research that without all of the little, small and tiny objects that reside on the line there would not be a line. Together they (the objects) make up what the line is. So I specifically decided to explore how I could display that as well as the connection between all of the little objects.
For my final project I have been transfering the panoramic images onto the leaves. My reasoning behind this is to show the whole line being on the smallest part that makes up what it is. I am deciding to display my final piece up on the wall and using a thin string that will “connect” all of the leaves together. Connecting all of them symbolizes the idea of how all of the individuals leafs, coming together, can create the whole line. Each of the images are from the ten different sections and the leaf they are printed on corresponds with the specific section it was found in.
Well we got our words for the line that we will use throughout our exploration.

So looking beyond just what the dictionary holds, I’ve decided to explore the meaning of the word Tiny in my own ways.
I have always found a fascination with small/tiny things. Going into arts and crafts stores I’m always drawn to the small bottles or jars, stickers or boxes. One of the first ways I decided to explore what the word Tiny meant was I started off at Google and typed in: Tiny things

This experience was done by going on a tour created by another freshmen foundation student
Since the assignment for our personal territory tour required us all to make a tour kit we knew, at least a bit of, what was going to happen. Once arriving in the studio today for class, we paired up with a friend to make a group of two. After everyone was paired up we then had to pair up with another pair, to make a group of four. Everyone had to switch tour kits and then we had an hour and a half to complete the tour that we were given.

On my tour she led me to the gym where I was then given three activities to participate in.
Although there were not many moveable objects in the room I still managed to find everything to fill out the three different activity requirements.
After creating my own tour and then experiencing another individuals tour, it was interesting to see how the activities made me see “more” of what was around me. I had to get up from the mat I was sitting on and explore was was there, but just hidden. I found different textures, small objects, and different shapes within the gym. I was able to see the room with a bran new pair of eyes that were able to pick up everything in site.
The activities I had to do required me to make rubbings, find different shapes and find different objects. Without the activities I never would have experienced the tour in the way I did.

This is the kit I made for my personal territory tour.
For part of the assignment on Personal Territory Tour we had to make a kit that an individual going on the tour could use. For my kit, the way I designed it, I decided to let the viewer have a little more lean way with experiencing what I did. Inside my kit I included: a umbrella, snacks, a water bottle, a blanket and a trash bag. The way I designed the kit was for the individual to be able to experience the life around them as they take in everything they can. Included in the kit as well are two sheets of paper numbered to 20. On my experience I found it very interesting how much I was able to see beyond the leaves and water while writing the “50 things.” I decided to use 25, since it’s past 10 so they have to work a bit harder, but still have time just to sit and listen to the new world around them.
